How to report an error and what happens next.
Tribune Newsline corrects errors openly. This page explains how to report a mistake, what happens after you write, and how corrections appear in the text.
How to report an error
Write through the contact form and include four things:
- The URL of the article.
- The exact sentence or figure you believe is wrong.
- What the correct information is.
- A document that supports the correction, where one exists.
What we do next
| Type of error | Action |
|---|---|
| Typo, name spelling, broken link | Corrected silently in the text |
| Wrong figure, date or title | Corrected in the text, with a note at the end if the meaning changes |
| Substantive error in reporting | Correction note at the top or bottom, stating what was wrong and what changed |
| Claim that cannot be supported | Removed, with a note explaining the removal |
How a correction note reads
A note states the date, the original wording and the corrected version. We do not delete an article to make an error disappear; if a story is withdrawn, the URL stays live with an explanation.
What is not a correction
- Disagreement with the framing or tone of an article.
- Requests to remove a fact that is documented and accurately reported.
- Complaints about coverage of a person or organisation that do not identify a factual error.
Those points can still be sent; they are handled as editorial feedback rather than as corrections.
Timeline
Corrections that affect a figure or a name are prioritised. We do not promise a fixed response time, but we do confirm receipt when the message includes a working email address.
Editorial note. We publish explanation and context, not personal recommendations. Where a topic touches health, money or safety, check with a qualified professional and with official sources.
