WORK OF NEW OPEN AIR THEATRE IN VIRSA VIHAR STARTS

OPEN AIR THEATRE TO BE READY WITHIN THREE MONTHS- DC

Jalandhar, November 27,2019: To promote theatre activities in the city, the district administration has commenced the construction work of new open-air theatre in Virsa Vihar.
The open-air theatre is being constructed at the cost of Rs 10 lakh and the funds have already been transferred to the executive agency Public Works Department (Building and roads).

The open-air theatre will have a seating capacity of 200 people.  The open-air theatre will also have a control room for managing sound and lighting system here beside two green rooms and separate toilets.

The Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma, who is chairman of District Cultural and Literary Society, played a key role in the starting the construction work of the open-air theatre as the work was pending for last 10 years.

Divulging the details,Sharma said that the boundary wall around the open-air theatre will also be built for which Member of Parliament (MP) Chaudhary Santokh Singh has already approved a grant of Rs 4 lakh from MPLAD funds.                                                  Photo Source:tribuneindia.com

Sharma told that this would instil life into the theatre activities in the city by organizing drams and plays here. He said that theatre or plays will be a regular feature in the Virsa Vihar.

He said that a blueprint is already being prepared in this regard to ensure the Virsa Vihar could act as a catalyst for connecting our youngsters with the rich culture of the state.
Sharma said that no stone would be left unturned for developing this place as epi-centre of theatre and art activities in the region.

The Deputy Commissioner added the primary motive of such activities would ensure that our future generations stay connected with art and culture.

                        It is pertinent to mention here that the foundation stone for the open air-theatre was laid in 2009. 

Office Secretary of the society Captain Inderjeet Singh Dhami said that once the completion of construction work, more and more events would be organized in the coming months here.
