Teaching pedagogical skills, tools and techniques not only for academic career, but also to meet the requirements of the students: Prof. Ishar

Amritsar, 20  June 20:  On the inauguration of “Refresher Course in Research & Teaching Methodology” at Guru Nanak Dev University, Prof. M.P.S. Ishar, founder Vice-Chancellor, Maharaja Ranjit Singh State Technical University, Bathinda in his inaugural address enlightened the participants about the drastic transformation taking place in the teaching profession as a whole all over the world. Particularly, the advancement of Information Technology in the last few decades or so is posing grave challenges to the teaching fraternity, he continued.

          The course was inaugurated here today at the UGC-Human Resource Development Centre of Guru Nanak Dev University. Prof. Ishar was the chief guest on this occasion. As many as 48 University and College teachers pertaining to a variety of academic disciplines from various nooks and corners of the country are participating in it.

Prof. Ishar emphasized that the teachers of today need to rise to the occasion and accept these challenges valiantly and equip themselves to tackle them appropriately. He said that the inquisitive, analytical, critical, innovative, creative, logical and other vital skills needed to be inculcated amongst the students of today by the teachers. Describing the teaching and research as complementary to each other, he urged them to adopt advanced pedagogical skills, tools and techniques in their profession to advance not only their academic career, but also to meet the requirements of the student community. He concluded his address by highlighting the contribution being made by such courses in preparing the teachers to meet all these challenges.

Prof. J.S. Sekhon, Head, Deptt. of Political Science of the University and the Course Coordinator apprised the participants about the thrust area of this Course. The society at large has high expectations from the teaching community regarding the equitable solution of all the issues, he emphasized.

Prof. Kamaljit Singh, Director, UGC-Human Resource Development Centre, in his welcome address apprised the participants about the vital roles being played by these Centres in upgrading the expertise, competence, pedagogical skills of the teachers. Apart from the interaction with the learned academicians during the course, such Centres also provide a unique platform to the teachers from a variety of cultural, linguistic, geographical, religious, geographical backgrounds to interact with each other, he emphasized. Earlier Prof. Ishar was accorded a floral welcome by Prof. Kamaljit Singh, Prof. J.S. Sekhon and Dr. Mohan Kumar.
