New Delhi, November 29,2019:  Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said the lakh of residents of unauthorized colonies need registries of their properties and till such registries are actually in their hands, everything else is an eyewash, in a press conference held at the Delhi secretariat on Friday.

“People are not concerned with laws, rules, and regulations, they are only concerned with whether they are provided with proper registry papers of their properties. It is in the news that the registry process of the regularization of unauthorized colonies will start after six months of the assembly elections. I want to tell people to not trust anyone until you get the registry papers in your hands”, said the Chief Minister.

“From media reports, I have come to know that only 100 property owners will be given registry papers in the initial stage. This is meant for photo ops just weeks before the Assembly elections. BJP leaders will give registry papers to 100 owners, at a huge event to be held at Ramlila Maidan, just for the photos I believe. But I want to ask, why should this preferential treatment be given to some people? The registry should be provided to the whole of Delhi”, Chief Minister added.

“This is just an election gimmick of BJP, and they would end up betraying the people of Delhi just as Congress did during the previous assembly elections. Former Chief Minister Sheila Dixit also promised that her government would provide registry to the people during the assembly elections, but did nothing after coming to power. People have been betrayed before and they should not be betrayed again”, told the Chief Minister.

“We sent the detailed proposal to regularize the unauthorized colonies to the Centre on 12th November 2015, immediately after the formation of our government in Delhi. Why did they not take any action? They should have started the registry process six months ago”, asked the Chief Minister. “Lengthy processes like these have also been transpired before but with no results. People have been deceived by false promises. Hence they should not trust anyone until they receive registry papers in their hands”, he added.

“If the union government starts the process of giving the registry documents to the property owners, Delhi government is completely ready. We’ll complete the issuance of registry documents within 15 days”, the Chief Minister assured.
