AMRITSAR: BJP member of Parliament Dr. Subramanian Swamy today unjustified the Operation Blue Star which was carried out in June 1984 during the Congress regime said that it was wrong.
Talking to media persons here today Swamy said, “Operation Blue Star carried out by the Indian Army on Golden Temple was a mischievous blunder and it should not be done. It was Harkrishan Surjit and the Soviet Union which organised the Operation Blue Star. Here, I wouldn’t hesitate to say Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale was my friend and used to visit him when he was alive but he was not terrorist and he never raised demand for Khalistan”.
Adding further he said, “When I used to meet Bhindranwale who always said to me I never ask anybody to give Khalistan but if they people (Govt) wanted to give us have no problem so let it be. I never considered Bhindranwale terrorist. In past, I was deeply connected with Punjab and still have sympathy with the State”.
However, Operation Blue Star was carried out in June 1984 was ordered by the then Prime Minister Indra Gandhi to flush out the hiding militants whereupon militant leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale was shot dead along with others. During army action, the highest Sikh temporal seat Akal Takhat was raised to the ground.
Talking about the anti-Sikh riot which occurred in November 1984 he said, “It was not riot but genocide”.
Talking about the GST on the purchase of cooking material being purchased for the community kitchen of Golden Temple he said, “It should be removed even it shouldn’t have been brought in practice”.
On being asked his comments over the rape, he said, “Capital punishment is not enough as rapist deserved surgery so that in future he couldn’t repeat his again”.
Talking about 2019 Parliament elections he said that his party would win elections since corrupt people being sent to jail and people of the nation were happy with this action of Government.
