NO DANGER OF A FLOOD-LIKE SITUATION IN LUDHIANA DISTRICT


– SUTLEJ RIVER HAS A CAPACITY OF MORE THAN 58 THOUSAND CUSECS, NOW RUNNING 38 THOUSAND CUSECS OF WATER.
-ALL DRAINS FALL IN DISTRICT LUDHIANA ARE CLEARED – XEN DRAINAGE

Ludhiana, August 17,2019:  Due to heavy rains, a high alert has been issued by the Punjab government in 14 districts of the state, including Ludhiana. While giving details of flood control arrangements, Harjot Singh Walia has made the situation clear. He said that at present all the situation in the district Ludhiana is under control. The Sutlej River has less water than its capacity. All the drains falling under District Ludhiana are capable of holding rainwater. The district administration has made complete arrangements to deal with the untoward situation in any way. The Deputy Commissioner along with all department heads is personally monitoring the situation.

Providing detailed information, Sh. Walia said that in the Sutlej river passing along the city, 37994 cusecs water was running this afternoon, while the figure was 38724 cusecs at 12 noon. Which makes it clear that there is no danger of flood situation. He said that the Sutlej river has a capacity of more than 58 thousand cusecs of water. More than 58 thousand cusecs of water have already crossed here 20 days ago. With no damage to any part.

He said that all the drains in the district Ludhiana have been cleaned to avoid flood situation, all the drains are completely clean and are capable of handling maximum water. Similarly, Buddah Nullah is also running clean. To deal with any situation, the department has provided the required machinery along the nullah. Wherever the water stops, the cleaning will be done immediately.

Sh. Walia said that the level of Bhakhra Dam today is 1674.61 feet. On the morning of August 16, 36,000 cusecs of water were running. In view of the rains, yesterday, 50 thousand cusecs of water were irrigated at 6 pm. Keeping in the view of the conditions of the night, the flow was increased to 55 thousand so that any kind of unforeseen situation could arise. He said that only 19 thousand cusecs of water have been increased from yesterday morning till now, making the situation completely under control.

Sh. Walia has appealed to the residents of the district not to believe in any rumours. Under the leadership of the district administration, the department is fully capable of facing any situation. He said that if any unforeseen situation arises in any area, they can immediately contact the district administration directly.
