Fatehgarh Sahib March 31, 2020: The Under Trial Review Committee meeting of District Legal Services Authority, Fatehgarh Sahib was conducted under the Chairmanship of Nirbhow Singh Gill, Learned District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman District Legal Services Authority, Fatehgarh Sahib in view of the directions of High Power Committee meeting dated 25.03.2020 under the Chairmanship of Justice R. K. Jain, Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court Chandigarh cum Executive Chairman, Punjab State Legal Services Authority.
This meeting was attended by Amrit Kaur Gill, Deputy Commissioner, Amneet Kondal, SSP,Amarjit Singh, Addl. District and Sessions Judge, Fatehgarh Sahib, Mahesh Grover, Chief Judicial Magistrate and Parminder Kaur, CJM/Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Fatehgarh Sahib.
Amrit Kaur Gill, Ld. Deputy Commissioner, Fatehgarh Sahib disclosed that in 12 cases the convicts have been ordered to be released on parole and ensured that prompt action would be taken in remaining cases.
Further, in view of directions of the High Power Committee, the Senior Superintendent of Police Fatehgarh Sahib has been asked that the police department shall ensure that the directions contained in Para no. 11 in ‘Arnesh Kumar Vs State of Bihar’ (2014) 8 SCC 273 be complied with in letter and spirit.
Further, as per the directions of the High Power Committee, the process of releasing the under trial prisoners on interim bail has also been discussed and as per the data received from the jail authorities, 64 under trial prisoners have been released on interim bail.
