NCB Chandigarh Zonal Unit organises online competitions to celebrate “International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking”

Chandigarh, June 12, 2020:   With Campaign Theme of “SAY NO TO DRUG YES TO LIFE” Narcotics Control Bureau, Chandigarh Zonal Unit, in collaboration with State Legal Services Authority, Union Territory Chandigarh is organising online competitions to celebrate “International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking”.Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), the nodal drug law enforcement and intelligence agency of India celebrates the day, which falls on 26th June every year, with fortnight programme to highlight the steps taken by the government against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

This Unit has Jurisdiction in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh& Haryana (except NCR)targets parents, teachers, policymakers, health workers and prevention workers and highlights how to recognize – and prevent – risky behaviours and drug use.

This year, online competitions on subjects like song composition and music video recording, painting /drawing competition & anti-drug slogan writing contests are being organised. On account of COVID-19 pandemic it is not possible to organize the function involving mass gatherings. Last year also various schools, colleges, public places, labour colonies and various govt. organizations were covered during awareness drive. “Run for Fun” was organized at Sukhna Lake Chandigarh, which saw the participation of various NGO’s, Govt. organizations and school/college students.

On December 1987 UN General Assembly passed a resolution, proclaiming 26th June of each year as the “International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking”.
