Had Led the Brigade As Part Of Indian Peace Keeping Force To Jaffna Fort In Sri Lanka Cabinet Minister Bajwa Lays Wreath on Behalf of Punjab CM
Nawanshahr, January 10, 2020: Mahavir Chakra Recipient Brigadier Manjit Singh passed away today at Nawanshahr. He was 78 and was awarded Mahavir Chakra (Country’s Second Highest Gallantry Award) on October 19, 1987, for his extraordinary valour at Sri Lanka with Indian Peace Keeping Force.
He has entrusted the task to establish a link up with Jaffna Fort, along Western Pincer in the face of all-out efforts by the militants to thwart their nefarious designs. Brigadier Manjit Singh with just two companies of Rajput Rifles broke through the desperate cordon of the militants and successfully established a link-up with para commandos operating from Jaffna Fort.
Due to his leadership and demonstration of personal valour in the face of grave danger, the whole brigade was suddenly filled with elan and moved purposefully forward.
He was cremated today evening at his Rahon Road Residence in the presence of army personnel, civil and police administration besides political representatives.
Cabinet Minister Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa laid a wreath on behalf of the Punjab Chief Minister while Major Manish Sharma from 11core Jalandhar on behalf of Chief of Army Staff, Army Commander, Area Commander and Sub Area Commander.

Darshan Lal Mangupur, Kulbir Singh Zira, OSDs to CM Gurpreet Singh Dhesi, Ankit Bansal, DC Vinay Bublani, IG Jalandhar Zone Naunihal Singh, SSPs Alka Meena S BS Nagar, Satinder Singh Kapurthala, Navjot Singh Mahal Jalandhar Rural and Gaurav Garg Hoshiarpur, District Sainik Board Vice President Col. Sukhwant Singh Sekhon, District Defence Services Welfare Officer Col. Davinder Singh and GoG Head Col. Chuhad Singh were amongst the prominent to present there.
His nephew ( son of sister) Captain Sandeep Sandhu (Secretary Political to CM Punjab) and other nephews lit the pyre. Brother of Brigadier Manjit Singh, Former Leut. Col. Mahinder Singh and Retd. Captain Davinder Singh was also amongst the family members present there.
