Samrala (Ludhiana), January 12, 2020: Under the “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” initiative, Lohri of 101 baby girls was celebrated at Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Office, Samrala. This function was organised by the Department of Social Security and Development of Women and Children, in which Samrala MLA Amrik Singh Dhillon was the chief guest, while Deputy Commissioner Ludhiana Mr Pradeep Kumar Agrawal was the guest of honour.
ADC (Samrala) Jaspal Singh Gill, ADC (Jagraon) Neeru Katyal Gupta, Pritam Arora, Jagmilap Singh Khushdil, Reefa Bhatti (all three Judges), SDM Geetika Singh, PCS officers Baljinder Singh and Sonam Chaudhary, DSP Harinder Singh Mann, Tehsildar Navdeep Singh Bhogal, Naib Tehsildars Jaswinder Singh and Vijay Kumar, CDPO Samrala Inderjit Kaur, CDPO Ram Bhajan Singh, besides several others were also present on the occasion.
On this occasion, a “path” of Shri Sukhmani Sahib was held, after which a cultural function was organised to celebrate Lohri of girls. Jaggery, peanuts and Rewari’s were also distributed to the gathering. Baby Kit suits and other necessary items of baby girls were also distributed to the 101 baby girls.
While addressing the gathering, Samrala MLA Amrik Singh Dhillon and Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agrawal said that it is need of the hour as well as our duty to ensure that the social evil of female foeticide is stopped completely. They said that it is our duty to take proper care of the baby girls and provide them with ample opportunities to succeed in life. They also appreciated the efforts of SDM Office Samrala and the Department of Social Security and Development of Women and Children for organising this function.
