Jalandhar, February 1, 2020: The P.G. Department of Punjabi, Lyallpur Khalsa College for Women, Jalandhar organized a condolence meet to mourn the sudden death of writer Daleep Kaur Tiwana and Sardar Jaswant Singh Kanwal.
The college staff and students paid a tribute with heavy hearts and teary eyes to the two stalwarts. Madam Principal Dr. Navjot addressed that the two legends were epitomes in writing who have fearlessly expressed themselves for human rights in the form of their writings. Dr. Akal Amrit Head, Department of Punjabi apprised the gathering about the proud achievements, literary contributions of Daleep Kaur Tiwana and Jaswant Singh Kanwal.
Their deaths will remark an irreparable loss to the literature which will be impossible to bridge. She also said that Daleep Kaur Tiwana Ji ventured into the Punjabi literature through Punjabi stories and she has contributed through stories, autobiographies and was also Meet Pradhan(1991-94) of central Punjabi Sabha and also offered her services as President, Punjabi Sahitya Academy from 1999-2001.
Late Tiwana Ji also bagged a national award for ‘Eho Hamara Jeewana’ and she breathed her last on January 31, 2020. Sardar Jaswant Singh Kanwal Jihad also contributed through 36 novels, 12 stories collection, autobiographies, ‘Tushali Di Hanso’ book and was also a proud awardee of the National Literature Academy Award also bid goodbye a few days back.
