Kurukshetra, July 20, 2020: Haryana Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs, Sandeep Singh said that to improve the depleting groundwater levels, dedicated efforts are being made for water conservation. He said that the ‘Paudhagiri Campaign’ and plantation will improve the green cover in the State and groundwater levels. To fulfill this goal, every citizen of the State should plant saplings and must fulfill the resolve to plant at least one plant, the Minister said.
The Sports Minister was speaking at a plantation drive program organized under the aegis of Forest Department and Sports and Youth Affairs Department at Judo Hall Complex of Dronacharya Stadium in Kurukshetra today.
Speaking on the occasion, the Sports Minister said that a large scale tree plantation campaign is being carried out in Kurukshetra. The target of planting 8 lakh saplings of about 75 varieties has also been set under this plantation campaign and 3 lakh saplings have been planted so far. The target to develop Kurukshetra as a green district will have to be undertaken by every citizen with a solid resolve. He said that the average rainfall in Kurukshetra is decreasing compared to previous years due to which the level of groundwater has also gone down. Keeping this scarcity in mind and as per the orders of Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal, a target has been set to make Kurukshetra green.
He said that 1100 plants per hectare will be planted on the Panchayati land of Kurukshetra by the Forest Department and 1100 plants per hectare will also be planted under farm forestry. As many as 1.65 lakh saplings will be planted in 150 hectares. Besides this, 500 plants per hectare will also be planted on the land of various organizations. Along with this, schools will also be asked to join this campaign and a target has been set to plant 1.05 lakh saplings in the school premises. The Forest Department has been directed to achieve this target, for which a plan has been prepared by the Department.
