Steep rise in smuggling of mobiles into jail,
Jail’s Pharmacist nabbed while smuggling in mobiles and drug
Ferozepur, April 18, 2020: With the recovery of two mobiles and a pack of the drug found the health department official during the search operation, has put a question mark on the security arrangements of Central Jail and it is the sixth recovery in the last 20 days. During the current year, so far around 60 mobiles have been recovered and the security arrangements of the jail are under threat.
The modus-Operandi that makes smuggling in mobile phones and drugs so lucrative has been driven by a deterioration in prison conditions and the best way to reduce the supply of drugs and mobiles phones into prisons is to reduce the demand for them by ensuring that prisons are properly resourced. The in-cell landline phone with recording facility for contacting only at the pre-given numbers will ease the smuggling in position.
A case under NDPS and Prisons Acts has been registered on the complaint of Iqbal Singh Brar, Deputy Superintendent (M) against four persons – one health department official Inderjit Singh, Pharmacist posted in the jail and two jail inmates – Gurjant Singh and Nishan Singh already lodged in the jail.
