Govt. decides to observe 8 days ‘Traffic Week ‘ from April 23

Chandigarh, March 30,2018 (By SK.Vyas) :  Road Safety Week will be observed all across the country from April 23 to 30, 2018 and people from all walks of life will be made aware about traffic rules during the week.
Giving this information today, Inspector General of Police, Traffic and Highways, Sanjay Kumar said that there was loss of life of over 1.5 lakh people per year due to road accidents in the country. He said that Transport Department in year 2017 had constituted Road Safety Clubs in all colleges and activities of these clubs are satisfactory. A financial grant of Rs 50,000 was being given by the government to such colleges which are sending schemes of road safety.
He said that in collaboration with Transport Department, Traffic Police has conducted Haryana Road Safety Chetna Yatra in the month of February-March in which more than three lakh students and teachers participated. During the yatra, over 2,000 students designed paintings on road safety theme.
He said that United Nations Organization has already decided to observe Road Safety decade from 2011 to 2020. This campaign is an effort to realize the same concept of road safety. He said that a national symposium would be organized in all Universities of Haryana in year 2018. From July onwards, a common soft skill course of road commuters, drivers and traffic police personnel would be organized. Apart from this, a joint workshop of all government and non-government organizations associated with health sector would also be organized in which information about immediate post accidental treatment would be provided.
Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has directed all State governments as well as organizations and departments associated with road safety to create awareness about traffic rules during 29th National road safety week. Joint Secretary, Government of India, Mr Abhay Damle has issued a circular to the concerned departments and organizations for the same.
