Fragrance of flowers at Science City

JALANDHAR,MARCH 4 : Flowers are regarded as a symbol of love, beauty and a gift of nature. They have the power to make people happy and cheerful. We can never deny the importance of flowers in our lives. They have a great role to make us feel happy and cheerful in every situation of our life. These were the views expressed by Dr.Prem Kumar, VC, GNA University on the occasion of flower show organized at Science City. He said that this flower show is an effort to draw attention of humans towards diversity of nature and motivate the masses to green their campuses.

Further he said that people make use of different kinds of flowers on various occasions. They are often used on occasions like anniversaries, weddings, Valentine’s Day, birthdays etc. He  further said different kinds of flowers express different meanings like the magnificence and tenderness of red rose has been widely praised ever since the ancient times. Colored roses like white (purity), red (love), lavender (excitement), yellow (joy), orange (enthusiasm), dark pink (gratitude) and light pink (admiration) also express different emotions of our life. Beautiful flowers kept in hospital rooms can reduce the stress of patients and improve their recovery.

 On this occasion Dr. Rajesh Grover, Director Science City said that this event will inspire the society regarding the importance of growing flowers and conservation of environment and at the same time it will promote a spirit of fun. He mentioned that setting up of flower show is a cooperate venture which combine the skills, Knowledge and enthusiasm of several individuals.

 Dr. Grover further added that studies indicate that the State of Punjab harbors about 2000 species of flowering plants (angiosperms) in the wild, besides, a large number of species and varieties of floricultural and horticultural importance. Therefore, this event is an opportunity to the visitors of the show to enjoy the spring season as well as diversity in its full grandeur and appreciate the variety in nature.  Students of different educational institution has also  presented Gidha Bhangra and Gattaka .

Result of School Students Competition

Fresh flower: Ranjeet and Anshita  from  Bawa Lalvani Public School got first prize, Komal from  Arya Sen. Sec. School Phagwara stood second and Radha Rani and Jasmeet from Doaba College Jala ndhar received third prize.

 Dry Flower Arrangement  :Manmeet Kaur from BST sen.sec. School SujoKalia stood first, second prize clinched by Arman and Prapyush from Bawa Lalvani Public School Kapurthala  and third prize has been given to Manbir Kaur Guru Amardass School Kapurthala.

Painting Competition : First prize palakpreet Kaur from Sh. Guru Harkishan Public School has achieved first prize, Niraj Owaan form DRV DAV Centenary Public School Phillour stood second and Disha Sharma from SPPS Begowal  got third prize.
