New Delhi, December 31, 2019:Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi announces the decisions of Delhi Government’s Naming Committee in a Press Conference held at the Delhi Secretariat on Tuesday in the presence of Delhi’s PWD and Urban Development Minister Satyendra Jain. “The Naming Committee decided to name Mukarba Chowk after Shaheed Captain Vikram Batra and Mehrauli Badarpur Road after Acharya Shri Mahapragya. The committee also decided to rename Pragati Maidan Metro Station as Supreme Court Metro Station”, said the Deputy Chief Minister.
“Mukarba Chowk is one of the most important junctions in the country. Naming the Chowk as well as the flyover after Shaheed Captain Vikram Batra who was martyred in the Kargil War in 1999 can inspire the people of Delhi and those who come to Delhi. Few months before the parents of Shaheed Captain Vikram Batra visited Delhi and requested to honor the martyr. This decision is a deserving tribute to Shaheed Captain Vikram Batra”, the Deputy Chief Minister added.
“The demand to change the name of Pragati Maidan Metro Station in the Blue Line of DMRC to Supreme Court Metro Station was made by the Supreme Court in September 2019. The request to change the Mehrauli Badarpur Road to Acharya Shri Mahapragya was initiated be people nearby and various organizations”, said the Deputy Chief Minister.
Delhi government also announces the decision to change the following names: Lajpat Nagar Flyover as Sri Jhoole Lal Setu and Shakti Nagar Chowk as Bhagwan Mahavir Chowk. The Naming Committee also decided board and stone signage at Maharshi Dayanand Chowk in place of Rani Bagh, and re-install the signboards of Acharya Tulsi Marg at different places from Andheria Mod to Gurugram.
In 2017, Delhi Government constituted the Naming Committee headed by the Deputy Chief Minister Shri Manish Sisodia with the mandate to name government roads and institutions under the state purview. “The changes are to be made effective in a month”, said the Deputy Chief Minister.

In the Press Conference, Deputy Chief Minister reiterated that the Union Government should make it clear that whether it really wants to regularize the unauthorized colonies or not. “Earlier in the FAQs given on the DDA website, it was clearly written that the Bill introduced in the parliament was not meant for the regularization of unauthorized colonies or the structures therein. The newly made 20 sentence explanation is also not different in substance from the earlier statement. People won’t be happy with empty promises, meetings, and hoardings. They should get the registry of ownership rights in hand. The misleading claims amount to deception on the people of Delhi”, the Deputy Chief Minister said.

The Deputy Chief Minister also rejected the reaction by the Union urban development Minister for Delhi’s poor performance in Cleanliness Survey. “In fact, for this, MCDs are responsible. The union minister should fix responsibility at BJP’s three mayors for bringing shame to the city and the people here. BJP ruled MCDs terribly failed to keep the city clean”, the Deputy Chief Minister said
