JALANDHAR, JULY 5 ? r. Upma Bagai (Prof., Dept. of Zoology, PU, Chandigarh) was the resource person for ongoing 7-day DBT sponsored summer in biological sciences at Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar. She explained the protocol for isolation of lymphocytes from blood samples. Students themselves isolated cells in the laboratory using the Trypan Blue Assay. Students also gained the knowledge about flow cytometry. An interactive session between students and resource person led to increasing in the knowledge of the students while on the training session; Dr. Ekta Khosla explained the instrumentation, principle, working, and application of FTIR to students.
Dr. N.K. Srivastastva (NIT, Jalandhar) was the resource person for the ongoing summer school. He delivered a talk on environmental biotechnology covering various aspects like BOD, COD, Biosensors, Biofuels, Waste Water treatment, bioremediation, bioreactors and biodegradable plastics. Dr. Srivastva explained in the very simplified manner about the removal of pollutants from the environment by using microorganisms. A hand on training session was conducted by Prof. Disha and Prof. Swati, where students explored various biotechnological tools like PCR, DNA isolation, Agarose gel electrophoresis and microbial isolation from a different soil sample.
