Bharat Parv: Celebrating the Diversity

New Delhi, January 29,2020  (By Lipakshi Seedhar):  India celebrates many festivals associated with different cultures but some festivals bring all the people from different cultures together. One of such festival is Republic Day. Celebrated every year on 26th January, Republic day honors the date of the Constitution of India which came into effect on 26th January 1950. Each year, Republic Day is celebrated with utmost enthusiasm by Indians.

The 71st Republic Day was celebrated with the yearly tradition of the Republic Day Parade which started from Rashtrapati Bhavan, passes through India Gate and ended at Red Fort. This year, the Chief Guest was President of Brazil, Jair Messias Bolsonaro.

The ceremony began with the hoisting of the national flag followed by 21- gun salute,
soldiers from three services, paramilitary and others marched down the central
boulevard to the musical from military bands, 22 tableaux representing six central
ministries and sixteen states and Union Territories, 49 children getting Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puruskar, and a lot more.

In an attempt to let more people see the unity in diversity of the country, the Ministry of Tourism in 2016 started with celebrating Bharat Parv as a part of Republic Day celebrations. This year, Bharat Parv celebrated its fourth edition with the themes: “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat” and “Celebrating 150 Years of Mahatma Gandhi”. The aim of Bharat Parv is to include the spirit of “Dekho Apna Desh”. The six-day Bharat Parv was inaugurated on 26th January 2020 by Special Secretary and Financial Adviser of Ministry of Tourism Shri Rajesh Kumar Chaturvedi and it will go on till 31st January.

Some of the attractions are the display of Tableaux representing different states, Union Territories and ministries.

The tableaux are placed in the center of the fair and one can closely look at the beauty created by people. There are performances by different armed forces bands. There are also folk dances of different states and ethnic groups and performances from students from different educational institutions. Different stalls are set up for different ministries.

Handicrafts from different states are also there on sale. People can also try flavors from different states on the food stalls. The fair has a good system of drinking water and proper arrangement of toilets for the visitors.

The people planning on visiting the Bharat Parv must carry a photo identification card as the entry for the fair is free.
