AAP for a time-bound probe into massive drug haul in Amritsar factory

Chandigarh, January 31, 2020: Senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Punjab Assembly, Harpal Singh Cheema, has demanded a time-bound probe into the drug trafficking case in Amritsar’s Sultanwind area under the watch of a sitting judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court so that the mighty drug mafia lords could be brought to justice.

In a statement issued from party headquarters on Friday, Harpal Singh Cheema said that the unearthing of a drug factory in Amritsar’s Sultanwind area with a rich haul of drugs had left nothing to speculation that the drug mafia had been calling the shots in the state under the unstinted political patronage.

He said that it had been, once again, proved that the cult of drug mafia, which gained ground during the Badal rule, continued to enjoy the patronage of the Captain Amarinder Singh government for over three years now. The LoP said that the drug factory was allegedly owned by a senior leader of the Akali Dal (Badal) and a former member of the SSS Board, Anwar Masih.

The AAP leader has questioned “How come it the police administration and the who’s who of the ruling party were unaware of the illegal factory operating from the area, saying that the matter be got investigated in a time-barred manner under the watch of a sitting judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court to bring those behind the racket to justice.

Harpal Singh Cheema said that for a long time now, deaths of young people due to drug overdose were hitting the newspaper headlines for a long time now, saying that the government in the saddle was insensitive to the malaise, which was why the previous Badal government and the ruling Congress government were hands in glove with the drug mafia in extending patronage, with the police dispensation acting as a mute witness.
