“Centenary year celebration of Professor Ram Chand Paul (1919-2002)”

Chandigarh, October 30, 2018 ( By SK.Vyas): The commencement of centenary year celebration will be

organised by the Department of Chemistry, Panjab University,

Chandigarh in the loving memory of Prof. Ram Chand Paul, a

distinguished scientist, an eminent educationist and an able

administrator. Due to his dynamic leadership and vision, the

Department of Chemistry grew by leaps and bounds so much so that it

was recognized by University Grants Commission as a Centre for

Advanced Studies in Chemistry and has acquired international stature

and signed several collaborative programmes with academic institutions

in UK, USSR, Hungary and USA. His untiring efforts led to the

establishment of the Regional Sophisticated Instrumentation Centre

(RSIC) and Central Instrumentation Laboratory (UGC) on the University

campus.

One of the important buildings on the Campus has been named

after his name together with a garden in front of the

Vice-Chancellor’s office named as “Ram Chand Paul Rose Garden” in his

memory. The Department of Chemistry organizes every year an annual

symposium since 2002.He was the longest serving Vice Chancellor of

Panjab University Chandigarh from 1974-1984.

            The event will be featuring a documentary on the  life

journey of Prof. R.C.Paul. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Raj Kumar

will be the chief guest.

Dr. K. K. Paul, ex-Governor of Uttarakhand and son of Prof. Paul will

share his vision of Prof. Paul as a son and a teacher at the Chemistry

auditorium, Panjab University on Oct. 31, 2018 at 9:30 AM . The event

will be followed by a tree plantation by the Vice Chancellor, Prof.

Raj Kumar. in front of the  Chemistry Auditorium. Prof. Shankarji Jha,

Dean University Instructions, Dr. Ashok Kumar Sharma, ex-Director

NCERT and other illustrious personalities will grace the occasion.

A postal stamp to commemorate the centenary year of Prof. Paul will be

released on Feb 28, 2019 by the honourable Minister of Post and

Telecommunication.
