OVERCOMING MENTAL TRAUMA AND BRAVING ALL ODDS THIS IPS OFFICER PROVES THAT HARD WORK COULD TRANSFORM DREAMS INTO REALITY
Till 2014, she had aspired to get a Doctorate degree for settling her life but it was the serious ailment of her father which forced Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police I Vatsala Gupta to renounce her dream and choose Indian Police Service (IPS) by overcoming mental trauma to serve the society with new vigor and zeal thereby making every girl feel proud on her achievement.
The elder daughter of a Lucknow based Civil Engineer in Uttar Pradesh Government, Vatsala Gupta, was pursuing her doctorate degree in Environment and Biotechnology when cancer was detected in her father. Amidst crisis when due to treatment of her father in Mumbai the family, comprising Gupta’s mother and younger sister was in trouble, she presented a brave face and took the challenge head-on. With her mother moving to Mumbai for taking care of her hospitalized father for almost six months, Vatsala Gupta shunned her dream of getting a doctorate degree for taking care of her home and college-going sister.
But after his father came back home in June 2014, he rekindled the dream of empowerment and self-reliance in Ms. Vatsala Gupta due to which she decided to crack the coveted Civil Service exam and started its preparations. Overcoming tremendous mental trauma and agony faced by the family due to the treatment of her father, the young IPS officer then dedicated herself for the pursuance of her goal and finally cracked the 2015 Civil Service exam thereby bringing laurel for her family. Despite of all odds, constant support of her family especially her father helped the IPS officer to achieve this rare feat and Ms. Vatsala Gupta overcame all the hurdles in her way through her hard work and dedication to prove the world that the word impossible was not a part of her dictionary.
After getting Punjab cadre for the service, Vatsala Gupta had served at Ropar, Khamano (Fatehgarh Sahib), Nakodar (Jalandhar Rural) before being selected by the state government to serve as Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police I. The young and energetic officer, who was known for her sickness to rules while dealing with all the issues, says it was a matter of great pride and satisfaction for her to be part of the premier All India service. She said that educated and empowered girls were the basic necessity for making India a front-ranking country in the world.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police I believe that education was the most effective weapon to transform the destiny of every girl child in the society. She said that all the girls should understand one basic rule that commitment and perseverance would always pay its fruit adding that girls should dream big, set their target and then put all their efforts to achieve it. She said that God has blessed the girls with an indomitable spirit of hard work and resilience to conquer the world adding that once they have made up their mind then only the sky was their limit.
