Chandigarh, March 11(By Madhur) The department of SAIF/CIL/UCIM, Panjab University held its second Alumni Meet which saw nearly 100 alumni participating, with some of them coming from far off places. Few of the alumni’s were more than 80 years of age. This is the second time an alumni meet is being held since the inception of the center in 60’s and was thus a special occasion.
Prof. S.K.Mehta, present Director SAIF/CIL/UCIM, in his address, expressed happiness at the large turnout and explained various academic activities of the department held after the first Alumni meet in 2017.
Former directors, Prof. S.K.Sharma and Prof. T.R.Bhardwaj graced the meet and were pleased to know the progress of various activities held at SAIF/CIL in the recent past. Prof. Sharma announced that he is willing to contribute a sum of Rs. One lac as seed money for starting innovative activities in the field of instrumentation in the center.
Prof. Bhardawaj pointed that center may take initiative to assemble high-cost sophisticated instruments with the available resources to reduce dependency on foreign-based companies. Members shared their experiences and felt that reunion is a great time and acts like an extended family.
Prof. Arun K. Grover, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University graced the occasion. In his address, he explained that how SAIF has become a model center for many academic activities such as CRIKC and GIAN. He complimented the center for the initiative taken to hold annual Alumni meet.
The event ended on a positive note by alumni’s sharing their memorable experiences of their stay in the department. Participants discussed ways to give back to the institute and society at large.
