Average rate of exponential rise in COVID-19 cases much less in Punjab

Jalandhar, May 23, 2020: Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh today said that due to strenuous efforts of the state government, the exponential rise in the cases of COVID -19 pandemic has been checked effectively and the average rate of exponential rise was much low in Punjab as compare to the National average.

Answering a query of a city resident during the today’s edition of his FB live program ‘#AskCaptain’, the Chief Minister said that against the national average of doubling of cases of the pandemic in 14 days, the average rate in Punjab was currently 86 days. He said that the huge difference in the national and state average of doubling rate was due to concrete steps taken by the state government. Captain Amarinder Singh said that 86 days period was a long duration, which clearly reflects that the state government has been able to control it considerably.

The Chief Minister further said that in Delhi the average doubling of cases was merely 15 days, which was also much lesser than the state. Captain Amarinder Singh expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the cooperation of the people in checking the spread of COVID in the state, which has done exceedingly well in controlling the situation. He said that of the total 2028 confirmed cases in the state, 1819 had fully recovered adding that the 200 patients under treatment would also be fine soon.

The Chief Minister said that a high recovery rate has been possible only by strict discipline by Punjabis in following all social distancing norms. He said that social distancing and compulsory wearing of masks would need to be strictly followed to keep the situation under control. Captain Amarinder Singh described the lives and health of the people as his biggest priority adding that the state government was duty-bound to take care of the heath of the Punjabis.
