- Ludhiana, 8 Oct 2018 ( By TnL Bureau): The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) organized a one-day workshop on “Mental Health” in association with ReFocus Foundation, India, today.Gurbir Singh, District and Sessions Judge, Ludhiana was the chief guest while Dr R.S. Sidhu, Registrar, PAU,, presided over the workshop.
Dr Gurpreet Kaur, Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Ludhiana, was the guest of honour. Principals of city schools, police officials and members of faculty of PAU also attended the workshop that was based on the theme “Young People and Mental Health in a Changing World.”
Presenting mental, social and economic picture of the society in Punjab, Dr Sidhu expressed concern over the youth going astray. Improving mental health could lead towards positivity and wellness of the people, he observed.
Gurbir Singh, while highlighting the importance of mental health, said it was an essential part of the overall health. This workshop was need of the hour keeping in view the rise in crime and drug addiction in the society.
CJM Dr Gurpreet Kaur, while pointing out pressure on the minds of the people, shared some useful tips to improve mental health.
Dr Sarabjit Singh, Professor, Department of Agricultural Journalism, Languages and Culture, discussed the ways to make life stress free and boost mental health.
In his welcome address, the President of ReFocus Foundation Dr D.J. Singh said workshop was the dire need as the society was facing many problems and there was no mention of mental health in the academics.
Later, Dr G.K. Sangha, Dean, Postgraduate Studies, PAU, proposed a vote of thanks.
During the panel discussion, students, teachers and police officials interacted with each other. Dr S.S. Kukal, Dean, College of Agriculture; Dr J.K. Gulati, Dean, College of Home Science; Dr Shammi Kapoor, Head, Department of Microbiology, PAU and Dr Manjit Singh also participated in the discussion
