Jalandhar, April 17, 2019: To enable the employees working in the shops, business and industrial houses and other commercial establishments of Jalandhar to exercise their franchise in the ensuing general elections, a paid holiday has been declared on the day of voting (May 19).
District Election Officer-Cum-Deputy Commissioner Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma said as per the directions of Election Commission Of India (ECI), a holiday has been declared on the day of voting (May 19) for under section 135-B of Representation of the People Act 1951.
He said that no deduction or abatement of the wages of any such a person shall be made on account of a holiday having been granted.
The daily wager/casual workers are also entitled to a holiday and wages on poll day as provided to them.
