India has overtaken Russia, is on 3rd rank in terms of positive coronavirus cases. There are a total of 705,161 cases in which people who died are 19,793 and recovered is 430,260.
- India has reported a huge spike of 24,248 new coronavirus cases in one day. Maharashtra has reported the highest number of infections with over 2.06 lakhs followed by Tamil Nadu 1,11,151 and Delhi crossed 1,00,000.
- Covaxin, India’s first possible vaccine against COVID-19, will be tested on over 1,100 people in two phases, according to a report in Bloomberg. Bharat Biotech is an unlisted Indian vaccine maker has received regulatory approval to start human clinical trials for its experimental shot earlier this week. It has planned to enroll 375 people in the first phase of clinical trials and 750 people in the second phase, an ICMR spokesperson said.
- The under-development vaccine is “envisaged” to be rolled out “for public health use by Aug. 15 after completion of all clinical trials,” Indian Council of Medical Research, or ICMR, said in a July 2 letter to clinical trial sites, which was seen by Bloomberg News.
- There’s been no evidence yet that Bharat Biotech’s vaccine is safe for use on humans, not to mention effective.
- In an open letter to the World Health Organization, 239 scientists from 32 countries have claimed that the Covid-19 coronavirus is airborne, The New York Times reported on Saturday. The scientists plan to publish their findings in a journal this week.
- Archaeological Survey of India has allowed the opening of centrally-protected monuments from Monday, 6 July. But people will have to follow the social distancing norms and well as physical sales of the tickets have been prohibited and only e-tickets entry will be allowed.
- Because of this coronavirus outbreak, UGC in its revised guidelines said that final/terminal exams should be conducted by universities offline, online, or in combined mode by September end.
