JALLIANWALA BAGH MASSACRE WOULD EVER INSPIRE OUR YOUNGER GENERATIONS TO SERVE THEIR MOTHERLAND WITH FULL PATRIOTIC FERVOR AND ZEAL- DC

DISTRICT ADMINISTRATION ORGANIZES CYCLE RALLY FROM THE PARVATI JAIN SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL

Jalandhar, April 13, 2019: Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar  Varinder Kumar Sharma today said that the martyrdom of the victims of Jallianwala Bagh Massacre would ever act as a source of inspiration for our younger generations to serve their motherland with full patriotic fervour and zeal.

Addressing the gathering here at the local Parvati Jain Senior Secondary School before flagging off a cycle rally to observe 100thyear of Massacre today, the Deputy Commissioner said that nation would always remain indebted to the massacre victims, who laid down their lives to give Indian freedom struggle a strong lease of life, eventually culminating in the ouster of the British from India. He categorically said that the sacrifice of the martyrs marked a decisive step towards ending the British rule in India. Sharma said that the massacre took place on April 13, 1919, when a crowd of non-violent protestors, along with Baisakhi pilgrims, were subjected to unprovoked and brutal firing by the troops of the British Indian Army, commanded by General Dyer.

The Deputy Commissioner said that more than 1000 people were believed to have died in the action, which left the nation shocked to its core and paved the way for widespread public rebellion. He said that it was very important to remember this tragic incident as this incident ignited the national freedom Movement thereby leading to the freedom of the country from the British imperialism. Sharma asked the students to always remember this barbaric incident as it teaches them a lesson of unmatched valour, sacrifice and dedication towards the country.

The Deputy Commissioner said that this barbaric incident became a turning point in India’s struggle for independence. He said that the impact of this tragedy was so severe on the minds of people that hatred against the Britishers enhanced manifold.  Sharma said that the real tribute to the martyrs of this massacre would be that each one of us should democracy at the grass root level by ensuring our participation in the ensuing polls.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner and others flagged off the cycle rally in which hundreds of students took part. The rally culminated back at Parvati Jain school after passing through Football Chowk, Dr. BR Ambedkar (Nakodar) Chowk, Guru Nanak Mission Chowk, BMC Chowk, Namdev Chowk, Sri Ram Chowk, Bhagwan Valmiki Ji (Jyoti) Chowk and Basti Adda.

On the occasion Principal of the school Sunil Manchanda, District Guidance Counselor Surjit Lal, former Assistant Director Youth Services Captain Inderjit Singh Dhami, Director RUDSET  Jagdish Kumar,  Kulwinder Singh Gakhal and others were also present.
