International Conference on India’s Global Ascendency: Confluence of Innovation and

Sustainability in Business and Society

Chandigarh January 23, 2020:  University Institute of Applied Management Sciences (UIAMS), Panjab University, organized an International Conference on India’s Global Ascendency: Confluence of Innovation and Sustainability in Business and Society, here today.

The chief guest on the occasion, Prof. AS Chawla, Vice-Chancellor, RIMT

University, Punjab discussed the leading economies in the world and how Indian

the economy had certain distinct characteristics which made it different from the rest of

the world.

He emphasized the potential of the youth of India and also said that their

potential needs to be harnessed if India aspires to be a leading economy in the world.

The guest of honor for the conference, Prof. A.K. Saihjpal, Former Vice-

Chancellor, Baddi University of Emerging Areas in Science & Technology, Baddi; Former

Director, UIAMS in his address, shared his experiences to communicate the relevance of

innovation in the current times.

He emphasized that while innovation was important, it was equally relevant to contribute to society while realizing ones’ personal goals.

    Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, PU in his address motivated the participants

and said that India has witnessed holistic growth and social and economic upliftment in

recent years. Unprecedented challenges have also surfaced alongside this phenomenal

growth. These challenges require innovative solutions. Prof. Raj Kumar stated that

the success of every innovation lies in providing sustainable and feasible solutions to real

life problems.

    Prof. Shankarji Jha, Dean of University Instructions, the chief patron for the

the conference addressed the participants and said India has pride of place as one of the

fastest growing economies of the world. Prof. Jha said he was confident that the

conference would provide the basis for further debate and action on finding innovative

and sustainable solutions.

    Prof. Upasna Joshi Sethi, Director, UIAMS, welcomed all the dignitaries and

presented the theme of the conference.

    Two plenary sessions were also held at the conference by Dr. Mahesh Joshi,

Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) University, Australia and Dr. Edward

Roggers, NASA. Dr. Mahesh Joshi shared his views about the issues the researchers were

facing while doing their research. He stated that researchers should read industry

relevant journals and identify real issues. Mr. Joshi added that collaborations help in

achieving better research results.

    Dr. Edward Roggers in his plenary session shared his experiences to motivate

the participants. He emphasized the importance of leadership in enabling innovation and

sustainable business ideas.

    Various technical sessions were held during the conference where the

participants presented their research work across interdisciplinary areas of

management.

    The valedictory session of the conference had Prof. Karamjeet Singh Registrar,

as Chief Guest and Prof. Keshav Malhotra Dean, Faculty of Business Management &

Commerce as a guest of honour. He shared his views on India’s growth and the country’s

strengths. He urged the participants to be open to new research ideas.
