Ludhiana, March 10 (By TNL Bureau): Exhorting the young doctors to work in Punjab to eliminate the infant and maternal motility, Tuberculosis and Malnutrition, State Health Minister Brahm Mohindra on Saturday asked them to spend few years of their service in government health institutions so that a change can be brought in the health sector of Punjab.
Participating in an annual Convocation ceremony at Christian Medical College and Hospital, Mr Brahm Mohindra said it is our collective responsibility to provide best medical facilities to the people in Punjab as everyone cannot go abroad for the treatment.
Motivating the young doctors, he said that they have a big responsibility on their shoulders as malnutrition, TB, Infections, Cancer and other diseases are major challenges at present and they have to minimize the sufferings of the people with their knowledge.
He asked them to advise the people about the importance of nutritional diet, routine exercise and push them to shun the bad habits of smoking, drugs, gutkha and alcohol.
The Health Minister motivated them to learn minimal invasive procedure, transplant and robotic surgery by keeping pace with advancements in the medical sector which would benefit the society to them and state.
He claimed that the state government is committed to equipping all the primary health centers of the State and the city hospitals to offer the best of health care to the people.
He also lauded the role of CMC in producing missionary doctors and offering the best care to the people.
Dr. Abraham G. Thomas, Director welcomed the gathering, Dr. Tejinder Singh, Acting Principal, Christian Medical College, administered the Hippocratic Oath to the Graduates and presented the Annual Report of the College highlighting the achievements, awards and honors won by the faculty and the students. The Baba Farid University of Health Sciences was represented by Dr. Arvind Sharma, Registrar.
A total of 42 graduates from Christian Dental College were awarded degree & prizes. Samridhi Bhuria was awarded the `Best Intern’ award. Principal in his report highlighted that Christian Dental College was declared the best dental college in the state of Punjab and the second best private dental college in the country for the second consecutive year.
Students of College of Physiotherapy excelling in various academic activities were awarded Prizes and Medals by the Chief Guest. Ravneet Kaur was awarded Beant Singh Sahnan Memorial award for standing first in college in Bachelors of Physiotherapy Aggregate all four years on Convocation moreover, she also got an award for holding the first rank in the University and Prarthana Sanya Lal was awarded the second rank in university.
College of Nursing special prizes was awarded to Harmeet Kaur for all-around best student nurse, Rajwinder Kaur and Kiruba Ananthi for best clinical student nurse and Gurwinder Kaur for best community health student nurse, batch 2013. BSc. Nursing College toppers among undergraduates were Ishatpreet Kaur, Kiran Bhatti, Navneet Kaur, Gurwinder Kaur, Harmeet Kaur – Aggregate. The MSc. nursing toppers among postgraduates were Kanika Sharma, Nitesh Dhiman and in Aggregate also.
Amandeep Kaur, Student of BSc. Medical Radiography and Imaging Technology got distinction in the subject of Hospital practice and care of the patient.
