Amritsar, 30, November 2017: The meeting of Syndicate of Guru Nanak Dev University was held on November 30, 2017, and a number of decisions were taken. The Syndicate approved the award of the degree of Honoris causa to two eminent personalities, viz. Jagdish Singh Khehar, former Chief Justice of India and Gen. Bikram Singh, former Chief of the Army Staff for their remarkable contribution in the respective fields. Union Minister for HRD, Shri Prakash Javadekar has given his formal consent to be the Chief Guest at the 44th Annual Convocation of the University.
Keeping in view the latest changes in the industry as well as advancement of technology, the Boards of Studies in all the subjects have been directed to introduce a paper on current issues which should include the latest innovations in technology. The programme of Open and Distance Learning is being introduced in Guru Nanak Dev University, regional campuses of G.N.D.U. and constituent colleges. A decision to establish the Directorate of Open and Distance Learning in the University was taken by the University Syndicate. The approval was also granted to other projects in the University, such as to provide seamless mobile connectivity by installing antennas in the Campus, identity-cum-Cash cards have been issued to the campus students for easy cashless transactions and power purchase agreement signed with Azure power Rooftop one Pvt. Ltd. for operation and maintenance of roof-top solar power plant under the aegis of SECI, Gov. of India.
Guru Nanak Dev University has signed a MoU with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt. of India under the scheme of Indian Institute of Sports Sciences and Research for conducting M.Sc. and Ph.D. programmes in sports sciences which will lead to enhancement of performance of Indian sportspersons in the international competitions. The students have been allowed a special chance by the Syndicate for improvement of the percentage of marks/grades. The Syndicate noted that the university has started various students’ activities clubs which have received an enthusiastic response from the students.
