Govt. committed to control pollution

Fatehgarh Sahib. November 05, 2019: K.S. Pannu, Director, Environment and Climate change, Punjab while presiding over the meeting of officials of various departments and representatives of All India Steel Rolling Mills Association at Mandi Gobindgarh industrial town today said that to facilitate the industry the State. Govt. has reduced VAT on the price of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) from 13.4% to 3% as per their demand and urged to all the rolling mills to use PNG as fuel in their furnaces. He said that State Govt. is committed to control the menace of pollution and making all out efforts. He said if we failed to curb this menace our coming generations will not spare us and everyone has to contribute.

The representative of All India Steel Rolling Mills informed that even after reduction of VAT on the PNG, use of PNG is costlier fuel as compare to the other fuel and also there are some technical problems in adopting PNG as fuel. They urged him to install a model unit in the area which will use PNG.

He assured to constitute a committee consisting representatives of Punjab Pollution Control Board, All India Steel Rolling Association, Mandi Gobindgarh and PSCST Chandigarh, which will provide technology to set up a model unit and also may consult with the institute like IIT for setting up the model unit.

He also honoured the owners of induction furnaces during a function held, who converted their Air Pollution Control Devices (APCD) with new side hood suction system APCD evolved by the Punjab State Council Science and Technology (PSCST), Chandigarh resulting in the increase in collection of hazardous waste from 10Tonne daily to 120-150Tonne daily which was earlier mixing in the air.
