Amritsar, October 29, 2019: Alumnus of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar and senior IAS officer Dr.Sukhbir Singh Sandhu took over as Chairman of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) on Monday. Dr. Sandhu did his MBBS from Government Medical College, Amritsar and Master’s degree in History both from Guru Nanak Dev University. He is also a law graduate.
An IAS officer of 1988 batch from Uttarakhand cadre, he held important positions at the Centre and the Governments of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. He was an Additional Secretary, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development and also looked after Technical Education. He has a vast experience in the field of state roads, infrastructure development, PPP projects, finance, urban development, environment, health and family welfare, tourism, revenue administration, rural development, power, new and renewable energy, information technology, industries and science & technology.
He has been a regular speaker at LBS National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), Mussoorie and has also delivered a talk on ‘de-stressing Indian cities’ at Harvard Business School, Boston, USA, on the invitation. He has conferred the President medal in recognition of his services as Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana. He is related to the current Vice-Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University, Dr. Jaspal Singh Sandhu who also is an alumnus of this university.
