THE GRAND FINALE WILL BE HELD AT CENTRAL PARK, CONNAUGHT PLACE ON APRIL 14

New Delhi, March 19, 2018: The Deputy Chief Minister, Govt. of Delhi, Manish Sisodia today launched a month-long mega programme of songs and dance titled “Delhi’s Date with Democracy” at Delhi Secretariat. Sisodia also launched “Delhi’s Date with Democracy app” on this occasion and wrote his message on the Wall of Democracy – a huge Wall Screen installed at Delhi Secretariat.
Briefing the media Sisodia said that Delhi’s Date with Democracy is a celebration that reflects the true democratic character of our capital city, Delhi. It is a festival that brings out the secular fabric and glory of Delhi. To fully encapsulate“democracy”, the festival aims to unravel unsung heroes of Delhi through multiple levels of singing and dancing events. With the thought of inculcating the spirit of democracy among the people of Delhi, especially the youth, the entire event format is also democratically designed by way of selection and judging processes. Delhi’s Date with Democracy is an opportunity to sing, dance and celebrate democracy while also providing a chance to the people to become Delhi’s Next Star.
Sisodia said that the programme intends to provide a platform to budding local talent to present their art to a larger audience. The theme for this year is celebrating the idea of democracy through public participation. Through a series of dance and song competitions, the government hopes to celebrate the spirit of democracy and deepen its understanding among people especially the youth.The Participants selected from the App submissions will get the chance to perform and compete at the ward level. The winners will then progress to assembly level, followed by a district level event. Delhi’s Date with Democracy will conclude with a grand finale where the winners will have the opportunity to perform alongside celebrity music artist- Sukhwinder. The event is unique as it will bring together common people from different corners of Delhi to use art and culture in propagating democratic ideas.
EVENT FORMAT
We follow a PYRAMID APPROACH for the whole activation where the Masses of Delhi get to participate and we keep screening and shortlisting the participants to select the Winners. 5 tiers are created for running the selection process :
1. DIGITAL PARTICIPATION
2. WARD LEVEL
3. ASSEMBLY LEVEL
4. CLUSTER LEVEL
5. GRAND FINALE
EXECUTION PLAN
• DIGITAL PARTICIPATION
– A mobile application has been created to facilitate the digital submissions for the participation and the same shall be advertised throughout the wards it is covering.
– The Participants would be asked to upload their performances from their respective ward.
– All the videos received as entries would be screened according to the performance quality and level. 5 participants in EACH (Singing/Dancing) shall be selected from EACH ward, totaling 10 participants that shall be called for the on-ground level auditions.
– For the sake of a level playing field, tracks of songs for singing/dancing shall be uploaded on the application and the participants would have to record their performances and submit their entries.
– The application shall also serve as a digital mentor to not only the participants but also people who passively want to get involved in the event as it enumerates the details of the entire event.
WARD LEVEL
– 5 participants in each category, Singing and Dancing, shall be selected from each ward through screening of the digital entries received.
– The selected participants shall be invited to perform in front of a live audience at venues in their respective wards.
– Ward level events shall take place from 1st-4th April, covering a total of 280 wards across 4 days.
– 70 events each day will be happening simultaneously across Delhi, touching every corner of the city.
– The entire Auditions/Selection process at each ward will be carried out at selected locations with FLOATS (mounted on Tata Ace) providing to be the stage for the event.
– A Jury of 2 people, who are especially invited by request to the Department of Education, would be formed to judge the auditions at each venue who shall select 1 person in each of the two categories as the winner.
– The winners shall represent their respective wards at the Assembly Level events in their chosen categories.
ASSEMBLY LEVEL
– Assembly level events shall take place on 6th April, covering a total of 70 assemblies in a single day with the events at every assembly happening simultaneously.
– The entire Auditions/Selection process at each ward will be carried out at selected locations with FLOATS (mounted on Tata Ace) providing to be the stage for the event.
– A Jury of 2 people, who are especially invited by request to the Department of Education, would be formed to judge the auditions at each venue who shall select 1 person in each of the two categories as winner.
– The winners shall represent their respective wards at the Cluster Level events in their chosen categories.
CLUSTER LEVEL
– 5 cluster events (North/South/East/West/Central) shall be carried out across 5 selected venues across the city, at namely :
• Dilli Haat, INA
• Dilli Haat, Janakpuri
• Dilli Haat, Pitampura
• Palika Park, Connaught Place
• East Vinod Nagar Sports Complex
– The cluster level events shall take place on 8th April, simultaneously across the five locations.
– Another set of Jury comprising of 3 members, who are recognized professionals from the field of music and dance, shall be formed to conduct the 5 cluster events.
– 1 participant in EACH category (Singing/Dancing) from EACH cluster shall be announced as the winner of the competition followed by a Runner-Up.
GRAND FINALE
– The Grand Finale will be held in Central Park, Connaught Place, on 14th April.
– A celebrity artist performer is invited to perform at the show.
– Winners from clusters shall also be given an opportunity to share the stage with the celebrity artist at Central Park and perform live in front of the entire audience.
