Jalandhar, April 23, 2020: In order to decongest the fruits and vegetable market at Maqsoodan, the district administration has decided to implement the Odd/ Even formula in the wholesale mandi for the vegetable vendors.
Divulging the details, the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma and Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar who finalized the scheme said that the purpose was to decongest the wholesale fruit and vegetable mandi to reduce the risk of spreading the Covid 19. They said that currently 2000 fruit and vegetable vendors come to the mandi daily for getting the vegetables to be supplied at the doorsteps of people. However, both the officers said that now instead of 2000 vendors, only 1000 would be allowed to come to mandis everyday.
The Deputy Commissioner and Commissioner of Police said that all the 2000 vendors would be issued fresh passes by the Mandi board. They said that 1000 vendors would be issued Red passes through which they would be entitled to visit mandi on Monday, Wednesday and Friday for taking the fruits and vegetables to supply in the localities. Both the officers further said that similarly remaining 1000 would be issued green pass through which they would be allowed to take and sell vegetable on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
The Deputy Commissioner and Commissioner of Police further said that only the pass holder would be allowed entry in Mandi and no other person accompanying the vendor would be allowed. They said that besides Odd/ Even formula platform for selling of vegetables in the mandi would be widened, the social distance would be ensured, flocking would be stopped, segregation would be ensured and access control would be made. Meanwhile, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police D Sudarvizhi, Sub Divisional Magistrate II Rahul Sindhu, District Mandi Officer Davinder Singh, District Head of the GoGs Major General (Retd.) Balwinder Singh, Assistant Commissioner of Police Jasbinder Singh, HS Bhalla and Ashok Kumar, Deputy District Mandi Officer Birinder Singh and others held a meeting at the Maqsoodan Mandi to finalize the implementation plan of this formula.
