JALANDHAR, FEBRUARY 3,2020: The Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma today asked the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) on the feasibility of widening the PAP Railway Over Bridge (ROB) from existing four-lane to six lane.
Presiding over a meeting with NHAI Project Director Yashpal Singh Jadon in his office, Sharma told the NHAI to chalk out a detailed plan to resolve the traffic issues on this stretch as the commuters were facing huge problems at presently.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the ROB needs to be widened to ensure smooth and free flow of traffic on the connecting flyovers of Rama Mandi and PAP adding that it would also help in streamlining the smooth merging of traffic from city side.
He said that the operationalisation of the ROB would ensure that traffic coming to city and going towards Amritsar and Pathankot was streamlined.
Sharma told NHAI officials to ensure its early resolution at the earliest adding that he would also take up the matter at the appropriate level.
The Deputy Commissioner also said that NHAI would also be asked to get the approach roads of the National Highway repaired to facilitate the commuters.
Sharma added that with the widening of the ROB, the traffic from Jalandhar would not have need to go to Rama Mandi Chowk.
He said that the commuters have to go to Rama Mandi Chowk for moving towards Amritsar which is again creating traffic snarls on PAP-Rama Mandi stretch.
Sharma said that he has taken up the issue with NHAI Chairman in Delhi and the people would be facilitated at any cost
