Chandigarh December 29, 2018( By SK.Vyas): The third day of 34th North Zone Inter-University Youth
Festival at Panjab University witnessed colourful start with the event
of Folk Orchestra at Indian Theatre Open Air Auditorium. 6
Universities performed at the event. S Jagdeep Singh OSD to Chief
Minister, Punjab , and S. Kuldeep Singh Vaid (IAS). Fomer DC and
Present MLA from Ludhiana were the Chief Guest of the event and
Jasbeer Cheema, Theatre Artist from Canada was the Guest of Honour.
As per the rules, each University had to send upto 12
number of participants along with maximum of 3 accompanists. Also,
accompanists were made to sit separately and in a different dress.
The participating team was given minimum time of 7 minutes and maximum
time of 10 minutes.
David Sampson, Joint Secretary (Youth Affairs), Prof.
Karamjeet Singh, Registrar, Prof. Parvinder Singh, Controller of
Examination, Prof. Parminder Singh, Director, Department of Sports,
Prof. A.S.Ahluwalia, Prof. O.P.Katare, Dr. Nirmal Singh Jaura,
Director, Youth Welfare, Dr. Tejinder Singh, Deputy Director, Youth
Welfare, Prof. Asha Moudgil, Department of Philosophy, Dr. Neena
Bhajni, Principal, Gobindgarh Public College, Dr. Kanwalpreet Kaur and
PU Fellows were also present on the occasion.
Second day of One Act Play
The second day of the ‘One Act Play’ held at Law
Auditorium, witnessed 11 teams competing with each other on varied
themes.
Western Instrumental Solo and Western Vocal (Solo)
12 teams from various Universities showcased their talent
in the Western Instrumental Solo Competition held at the English
Auditorium. At the same venue, 19 teams from various Universities
participated in Western Vocal (Solo). The judges panel included
Rajatabh Banerjee, professional guitarist and western music
instructor; Sandeep Malhotra, promoter of cultural events and western
music instructor and Ajay Negi, western classical guitarist and
instructor at JMCA, New Delhi. The students were judged on the basis
of swar/taal, music composition, use of instrument and the overall
performance. The various instruments that were used included drum,
guitar, keyboard, saxophone, etc which captivated and spellbound not
only the audience but also the judges.
Light vocal (Indian) and Classical Vocal Solo
As many as 31 Universities gave soulful performances in
the event of ‘Light Vocal (Indian)’ held at P.L. Anand Auditorium. The
participants were given a time limit of 2 minutes to set the stage and
4-6 minutes to showcase the item they had prepared. Each participant
was accompanied by two instrumentalists, prominently Tabla and
Harmonium. The participants mesmerized the audience with the lyrical
of gazals ranging from ‘Meera Bai’ , ‘zindagi hui Tanha.. to ‘Wo gaam
khakr bi rote hai…’
19 Teams of various Universities participated in the
Classical Vocal Solo at the same venue.
Dr. Kumar A Ambrish Chanchal (Senior Assistant Professor
Kashi, Banaras Hindu University), Dr. Rajesh Kelkar (Advisor – Gujarat
Sangeet Natak Academy) and Professor Sharangdhar Sathe (Director, BVDU
School of Performing Arts) were the judges of the event.
Clay Modeling and On the Spot Painting
Department of Art, History and Visual Arts witnessed
imagination, creativity and fine motor skills during the event of Clay
Modelling and On the Spot Painting competition. Students from 21
Universities participated in clay modeling and were given the theme of
‘Child and Mother’ and ‘Movement’ which were judged by Dr. Pravin
Sharma, Dr. Alok Bhawsaar and Dr. Narayan Singh.
27 teams participated in painting competition and were
given the themes of ‘Celebration’and ‘Imagination’. The judgment was
made on the basis of shloka “Roop-BhedaPramananiBhavaLavanya
-YojnamSadradhyamVarnika-Bhanga, ItichitraSadangkam”
Roop-Bheda (distinction of form), Pramanani (proportion), Bhava and
Lavanya-Yojanam(the infusion of emotion and grace), Sadradhyam
(likeness or verisimilitude), Varnika-bhanga(division of colour).
