Punjab to introduce new sports policy by June end: Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi

Ferozepur, May 26, 2018: The Punjab government would soon introduce the new sports policy in the state by the end of June with an aim to encourage the sports within the state, encourage youth activities and to produce national and international level players.  Besides, the problems being faced by the players will be kept in view and special attention to strengthen them economically, technically and mentally.

This was stated by Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi, Cabinet Minister (Sports and Youth Services) at the inaugural session of 32nd Punjab State Sub-Junior Swimming Championship by Punjab Swimming Association at Delhi Public School, Ferozepur.  On this occasion, Balraj Sharma, Secretary, Punjab Swimming Association was also present.

Around 200 swimmers participated from the state in the Swimming Championship.

Rana Sodhi said the international level coaches will be engaged for imparting training to the players to upgrade the standard the sports level.  To make the Ferozepur as number one district in sports, modern sports facilities will be provided in the sports grounds in the district and by improving the existing grounds.

Congratulating the District Swimming Association – DSA – for organizing this championship, Rana Sodhi said, the tiny-tots, in the coming times, will bring laurels to the district and state at the national and international level.

He also said the existing swimming pool of Zila Parishad will also be upgraded by providing better facilities.

“I will try to uphold the sports in Punjab with full sincerity and responsibility”, said Rana Sodhi announcing a grant of Rs.3 lack to the DSA.

On this occasion, Surinder Pal Singh, DSA, Ferozepur and Tarlochan Singh Bhullar, Secretary said, in today’s swimming championship, Parth of Mohali bagged the first position in 200 m freestyle of boys, Kanwar again of Mohali stood second while Shiven Payal got the third position.  In girls, Arshpreet Kaur of Mohali, Mehakpreet Kaur of Jalandhar and Jasleen Kaur of Patiala got first, second and third position respectively.
