CM’s Rs 225 crore gift for Jalandhar residents as green signal for development works in district

DC directs officers to expedite work in all the nine assembly segments of the rict

Jalandhar, February 3,2020 : In a path breaking initiative aimed at ensuring holistic development of the Jalandhar district, the Punjab government has decided to pump in Rs 225 crore for complete facelift of urban and rural areas in the district.

Divulging the details while chairing a meeting for effective implementation of this grant in the district, the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar  Varinder Kumar Sharma, accompanied by MLA Chaudhary Surinder Singh and Chairman of Punjab Water Resources Management Corporation Jagbeer Singh Brar, said that Rs 225 crore has been allotted by state government led by Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh to all the nine assembly segments of district viz. Jalandhar Central, Jalandhar West, Jalandhar North, Jalandhar Cantt, Kartarpur, Shahkot, Nakodar, Phillaur and Adampur. He said that out of this Rs 126 crore would be spent for development in urban areas of the district and Rs 99 crore for the development of rural areas of the district. Giving assembly segment wise bifurcation Sharma said that in Adampur assembly segment Rs 15 crore would be spent in rural areas and Rs 10 crore in urban areas, in Jalandhar cantt Rs 10 crore would be spent in rural areas and Rs 15 crore in urban areas, Rs 25 crore each for Urban development in Jalandhar Central, Jalandhar North and Jalandhar West assembly segments, Rs 20 crore for rural development and Rs 5 crore for urban development in urban areas of Kartarpur segment, Rs 15 crore for rural development and Rs 10 crore for urban in Nakodar assembly segment, Rs 17 crore for rural areas and Rs 8 crore for urban areas in Phillaur constituency and Rs 22 crore for rural areas and Rs 3 crore for urban areas in Shahkot assembly segment.

The Deputy Commissioner further said that the state government under leadership of the Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has taken this historic initiative to give major to development works in urban and rural areas of the district. Sharma said that the work on these ambitious projects would start very soon. Meanwhile, he asked the officers of Municipal Corporation, Local Bodies and Rural Development and Panchayat department to submit the estimates of these developmental works by end of the week.

The Deputy Commissioner said that the process on starting these works must be expedited so that it was completed in a time bound manner.  Sharma expressed hope that an era of unprecedented development and prosperity would be ushered in Jalandhar with these development projects.

On the occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner Jasbir Singh, Deputy Director Local Government Anupam Kaler, Joint Deputy Director Local Government  Paramjit Singh, District Development and Panchayat Officer  Iqbalpreet Singh Sahota besides other were also present.
