Classes to start in Shahkot Degree College this year DC

JALANDHAR, FEBRUARY 1,2020 : -The first academic session in the Shahkot Government Degree College would start this year as the 60-percent of the construction work of the college building has been completed.

Divulging the details, the Deputy Commissioner Mr Varinder Kumar Sharma told that Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh had laid the foundation stone of the college in the Shahkot and work was allotted to a Bathinda based private firm on February 2, 2019 following the tendering process.

He said that the government had sanctioned Rs 8.15 crore for the college which is being constructed on the 3-acre land in the sub-division.

He said that the college building would have an Administrative Block, Arts Science Block, Multipurpose Hall for performing various cultural/ educational activities, canteen and lush green grounds for sports.

Mr Sharma said that the remaining construction work would be end by June 30 after which the classes would be started.

He told that the education was most powerful agent for bringing the reforms in the society on the principles of equality and social justice, and the spread of higher education was the panacea for most social troubles.

He said that it was long pending demand of the people of Shahkot and nearby areas.

He said that this would go a long way to further expand the ambit of education in this region.
