Jalandhar,August 18,2019:Lyallpur Khalsa College Jalandhar earned yet another laurel
in the field of sports by winning the prestigious Teja Singh Samundari Overall
Sports Trophy of Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar for record 24th time.
College Principal Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra and Dr. Jaspal Singh, Head,
Department of Physical Education, claimed the trophy on behalf of the college
in the presentation ceremony held at Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar. The
honors were presented by Mr. Radhe Sham Jhulaniya (IAS) Secretary Sports,
Department of Youth Affairs, Government of India and Dr. Jaspal Singh, Vice
Chancellor, Guru Nanak
Dev University,
Amritsar whilst
a total of 188 sportsperson from the college were also honoured on this
occasion. Principal Dr. GS Samra expressed his immense delight on winning this
trophy for record number of times with the latest feat being achieved with a
mammoth total of 108 points with 13 first positions, 10 second positions and 8
positions on the third spot spread over all the sports events accompanied by a
cash prize of Rs. 31,43,000 to best performer sportsman from the college. He
also discussed the pedigree of the sports department of the college which has
produced 2 Padamshree award winners, 6 Arjuna Awardees, 1 Dronacharya Award
winner and 2 Dhyaan Chand award winning players in addition to 17 Olympians as
well. Principal Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra appreciated the tireless efforts of
Dr. Jaspal Singh, Head, Department of Physical Education, Dr. Tarsem Singh and
Dean Sports Dr. Simranjit Singh Bains alongside the sports players, coaching
staff and the entire sports committee of the College on this record breaking
achievement.
