Amritsar, November 2, 2017: Guru Nanak Dev University organized 48th Inter-College Athletics (M&W) Meet 2017-2018 here today in the University Athletics Grounds of the University, which will conclude on 4th of November. As many as 500 athletes from 60 different colleges affiliated to this university are participating in this mega championship.
Prof. (Dr.) Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Vice-Chancellor formally inaugurated this meet. S. Tarsem Singh D.C., MLA of Punjab who is also the Member of Syndicate of the University was the Guest of honor on this occasion. Dr. Sukhdev Singh, Director Sports, extended a very warm welcome to everyone present on the occasion. He thanked Vice-Chancellor for providing support to the department.
The Vice-Chancellor while addressing the sports personal said that sports are essential for students to make them fit and strong. He said that it is a matter of pride for the University that Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has sanctioned “MYAS-GNDU Centre for Sports Sciences”. He said that University is committed for the upliftment of sports infrastructure of the University and all help would be provided for this. He also assured that he would be providing all the required support to encourage the youth to take part in sports events.
Tarsem Singh DC exhorted the sportsperson to consume good diet and play full heartily in order to excel at the national and international level and make the name of our University to shine. Vice-Chancellor and guests distributed medals to the position holders in the athletic events.
