4. 86 LAKH SAPLINGS PLANTED IN 884 VILLAGES OF JALANDHAR TO COMMEMORATE 550TH PARKASH PURAB OF SRI GURU NANAK DEV JI

Jalandhar, October 6,2019: In  a major initiative aimed at enhancing green cover in the district on one hand checking the environmental pollution on the other, the district administration has planted 4,86,200 saplings in 884 villages of Jalandhar to commemorate 550th parkash purab of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

As a humble and befitting to Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji on his 550th parkash purab, a special drive was embarked by the district administration to plant 550 saplings in all the 890 villages of Jalandhar. Till now the drive has been completed in 884 villages of the district whereas three villages of Lohian block, one of Nakodar, one of Adampur and one of Jalandhar West block was yet to complete the work of saplings. In these six villages also the work would be completed in the coming week after which the entire work for plantation of the saplings would be completed.

Divulging further details, the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar  Varinder Kumar Sharma said that the district administration had initiated this drive as the bani of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji was very close to nature and environment adding that this was probably the most suitable tribute to the great Guru, who had shown the path of love, compassion and harmony to the entire humanity. He said that through his teachings Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji had laid the foundation of protecting air, water, biodiversity and forests, which was the need of the hour.  Sharma said that besides utilizing Panchayati land for this purpose the strips around village ponds, on sides of the roads, educational institutes, health care centres and others were used for enhancing the green cover.

The Deputy Commissioner said that this drive was embarked in consonance with the commitment of the Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh to encourage people to plant more and more trees for making Punjab clean, green and pollution-free.Sharma said that such campaigns were need of the hour to check environmental pollution in the state.
