Jalandhar, 29, April: World Dance Day was celebrated today in Lyallpur Khalsa College. In this event dedicated to the memory of noted Indian classical dance maestro Pandit Birju Maharaj and Dr Vimpi Parmar , Dr Jiwan Bala from Govt. College Patiala acted as the Chief Guest. In his welcome address, the College Principal Dr Gurpinder Singh Samra said that it was the duty of educational institutions to support and promote art as it related one to one’s cultural roots, and organisation of the event was in continuation with that aim.
The occasion witnessed presentation of dance activities such as Ganesh Vandana , Mahia Choreography and Bhangra by the students, in addition to a fascinating classical dance performance by Prof Prabhdeep Kaur of the College dance department on the accompaniment of vocal singing by Prof Sukhdev Sagar and tabla by Prof Gurchetan Singh. The event also included honoring of Prof RC Kukreja an ex teacher of the college. The stage was managed by Dr. Surinderpal Mand.
