Chandigarh May 22, 2020: The Department of Art History and Visual Arts PU initiated the First Museum of Panjab University Webinar Lecture Series. The speaker at the webinar was eminent Professor of Art History and former Director of the Fine Arts Museum at Punjabi University Patiala, Professor Saroj Rani.
The webinar was dedicated to the loving memory of Late Professor Shankar ji Jha former Dean University Instructions, PU by Dr. Tirthankar Bhattacharya, Chairperson.
Further Dr. Tirthankar Bhattacharya thanked the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Raj Kumar, for having initiated the Museum Webinar series which was an innovative approach towards making the Panjab University Museums popular.
Professor Saroj Rani spoke about the “contribution of museum and art gallery in art and culture” with special reference to the Punjabi culture and traditions preserved in the museum at Patiala university. She lucidity explained the importance of preserving the rich heritage of a state and how museums help in research and cultural studies. Professor Saroj Rani discussed further the various textiles and handicrafts in the collection and how she along with her team had painstakingly collected each item. She emphasized that the present generation of students must value the culture and traditions and museum spaces must be upgraded as per international standards.
The online webinar was attended by faculty, students and research scholars of various disciplines making the webinar truly interdisciplinary and interactive.
