Mohali: In the online webinar, today, titled “From Home, Exodus to Homeless” Raam Jator, a Multidisciplinary Artist and presently a Junior Research Scholar in the Department of Art History and Visual Arts, Panjab University. Chandigarh narrated how people are forced to leave behind their possessions and their comfort zone which they apparently conceived as their homes, hypothetically.
The Video delves deep into the issues of forced migration induced due to the shutting down of large Industry projects post Covid-19 pandemic
This perhaps is one of the most dreadful examples of ‘Natural as well as Manmade disasters’ in the history of modern mankind!
The video art montage is a narrative about the Fear, Anger, Tragedy, atrocities, extortions. It is laced with a silver lining of ‘Hope; A Hope for a home’ maybe once again soon.
The work is a tribute to the people who ‘lost’ their homes or who are forced to lose their homes during the lockdown. Raam’s art is a reflection of his mind and his apparent passion to express his thoughts to pull out people from their comfort zones, which according to him sometimes sounds brutal.
His works reflect the amalgamation of both the fragile and permanence.
Raam works with mediums like jute bags, wood, the fire which are natural and environmentally friendly, informed Dr, Tirthankar Bhattacharya, chairman. Art history and visual arts PU Chandigarh.
