University Business School, Panjab University, Chandigarh, one of the region’s top B-schools which provides top-notch education in the field of management sciences, organized its sports day on Thursday, 16th March 2023.
The event was organized by University Business School for the first time. According to the chairperson of the business school, Prof Sanjay Kaushik, this sports event shall be a regular feature every year. It is an initiative by UBS to promote health and wellness. According to him, various new cells and clubs have been started at UBS like Health and Wellness club, Entrepreneurship and Development cell, Public Relation cell, etc. The sports day has been organized by Health and Wellness club and the business cell. The health and wellness club is headed by Dr. Kulwinder Singh while, Business club is headed by Dr. Neha Gulati.
The meet was held at Panjab University sports ground. The function was presided over by the Chief Guest, Prof. Renu Vig, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University, and other dignitaries including Guests of Honour, Prof. Harsh Nayyar, Dean Research & Development, Panjab university and Prof. Y P Verma, Registrar, Panjab University.
The program started off with the warm welcome of the Chief Guest and other dignitaries followed by flag hoisting by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Renu Vig.
The event was followed by an inspiring speech by Prof. Renu Vig, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University who motivated the students, research scholars, and the faculty of UBS to enjoy the day, and encouraged them to participate and be involved in the various events of the sports day. She quoted “Sports are very essential for every human life which keeps them fit and fine. It also improves the personality of people.” Prof. Harsh Nayyar, Dean of Research, and Prof. Y P Verma, Registrar, of Panjab University congratulated University Business School for organizing the event and motivating the students. Prof. Sanjay Kaushik, Chairperson of UBS, emphasized the relevance of mental health, quality of life, and well-being by promoting active participation of management students in extracurricular activities/sports apart from academics which will bring much relevance for an individual as well the society. The oath for the fair play was led by Dr. Neha Gulati.
The event started with a cycle race of 8 km followed by a 100-meter race, push-ups, three leg race, a relay race, a javelin throw, short put, balloon bop, a lemon race, musical chairs, and cricket. All faculty members, non-teaching staff, and research scholars participated in various events. The teams were formed of faculty, non-teaching, and students for various events. The program lasted till the evening. In the end, a felicitation ceremony was held to award the winners. The winners were awarded gold, silver, and bronze medals. The players of the day were awarded for males and females for various categories like faculty, non-teaching staff, research scholars, and students. The award ceremony was presided over by Prof. Baldev Setia, Director, PEC University of Technology. The Guests of Honor were Prof. RK Gupta, Vice-Chancellor, Maharaja Agrasen University, Baddi, CA Vikram Nayyar, Finance and Development officer, Panjab University, and Prof. AK Vashisht, former Professor, University Business School, Panjab University.
Dr. Kulwinder Singh, co-ordinator Health and Wellness cell gave vote of thanks. He profoundly thanked the dignitaries who graced the event, the faculty, non-teaching staff, and the students who wholeheartedly made the first sports day of University Business School a great success.
