Players participating in the Surjit Hockey Coaching Camp expressing their happiness as soon as they hear the news of the new Astroturf to be laid.
Jalandhar December 26, 2020: Thanks to the hard work & sincere efforts of the Surjit Hockey Society, the Punjab Government today floated tenders for the installation of a new astroturf at the local Surjit Hockey Stadium.
Sports Department, Punjab issued tenders for 15th of January, 28210 for the construction of four new astroturfs at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Stadium, Ferozepur, village Marar (Gurdaspur), Jalandhar and Dhudike (Moga) respectively.

Deputy Commissioner, Jalandhar Ghansham Thori, who is also the President of Surjit Hockey Society, Iqbal Singh Sandhu, Secretary and Surinder Singh Bhapa, Chief PRO of Surjit Hockey Society taken up the demand of hockey players to replace the new astroturf at the Surjit hockey stadium at the government level and taking the personal interest has made it possible to install a new astroturf. Surjit Hockey Society thanked Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and Sports Minister Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi for fulfilling the long pending demand of the hockey players.
It may be recalled that Iqbal Singh Sandhu, Secretary and Surinder Singh Bhapa, Chief PRO, Surjit Hockey Society had repeatedly taken up this demand of the players at the level of the department and Sports Minister Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi for replacement of astroturf at the local Surjit Hockey Stadium.


In the meantime, Iqbal Singh Sandhu and Surinder Singh Bhapa suggested to the Minister of Sports, Punjab Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi that the astroturf be replaced at Surjit Hockey Stadium can be re-used for 3 six-a-side grounds. As such, 2 at Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar & Kukar Pind can be replaced whereas raining one Austrorf can be installed at local Guru Gobind Singh Stadium as this is the suitable central place for the hockey players. This will be the best use of the replaced Austrorf and the maximum players would get the experience of playing on this astroturf. Meanwhile, the players participating in the Surjit Hockey Coaching Camp, which has been going on for the last 93 days at the Surjit Hockey Stadium were overjoyed to hear the news of the new Astroturf today and exhibited bhangra at the playground.
