Kapurthala, September 16, 2020: Deputy commissioner Kapurthala Deepti Uppal Deputy commissioner Kapurthala has said that the high death rate in the district due to COVID-19 is a matter of concern and people must understand the gravity of the situation.

Addressing the people the Deputy Commissioner said that ” it was noticed after study of many cases that people approached the doctor on the last stage when the infection affected their lungs badly which is main reason behind the deaths due to the fall of oxygen level”.

Talking about the deaths, the Deputy Commissioner said that the district witnessed 106 deaths which are highest across the district with nearly 5 %. She said that the out of total 106 deaths 80% belongs to the old age group and comorbidity conditions which clearly reflects that people are putting the lives of aged persons at high risk by not approaching the health facilities at an earlier stage.

Advocating to increase the testing capacity the deputy commissioner said that it was increased to 950 to 1000 per day and SDMs and SMOs have been asked to prepare more mobile teams for testing in rural areas.

She also urged the patients in home isolation that they must respond to the phone calls made by the home isolation control unit as they are guiding the patients on pulse rate, oxygen level etc. Presently 476 patients are under home isolation in the district which are monitored by the home isolation control unit at DAC Kapurthala.
