- ADVISORY AS PER DIRECTIONS OF THE NATIONAL COMMISSION FOR PROTECTION OF CHILD RIGHTS
LUDHIANA, JUNE 13 ( By SK.Vyas): The Punjab Government has released an advisory to state media groups against revealing the identity of any child who suffers from sexual abuse. This is in keeping with the directions of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights.
Divulging the details, an official spokesman of the Department of Social Security, Women and Child Development said that the Member Secretary of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights vide a letter written to the state government has asked the latter to not disclose identity of any victim of sexual abuse in any media in accordance with section 23 Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POSCO) 2012 and Juvenile Justice Act 2015.
Further, the spokesman said that the rationale behind the advisory is to make sure that the victim, who has already been through the psychological and physical trauma of the extreme kind, doesn’t undergo the tribulation all over again.
The spokesman also said that intimation regarding this has been sent to all the Heads of Department and Deputy Commissioners to accord priority to ensure that the direction is complied with in letter and spirit.
