Police recovers 9,000 ltrs ‘lahan’, destroys on the spot to avoid its misuse

Ferozepur, November 28, 2020:  The Ferozepur police CIA staff headed by Darshan Singh during the routine patrolling of the Sutlej river side area of village Ali Ke recovered 9,000 ltrs ‘lahan’ to be used for making illicit liquor.

In a drive against distillation smuggling and sale of illicit liquor in the district, after the hooch incident at Amritsar and Tarn Taran, taking more than 100 lives, both excise and police departments have been up in arms to stop this menace by making raids through various tip-offs and in-outs from their sources and in the past recovered and destroyed huge quantity of ‘lahan’.

Darshan Singh informed that the ‘lahan’ recovered was destroyed on the spot to avoid its misuse.  However, the 15 tarpaulins used after extraction of liquor were taken into custody as evidence.

Police source said, the campaign against brewing illicit liquor would be a continued feature and the alleged accused would face the music of law.

No arrest could be made, as none was available at the spot of recovery of ‘lahan’.

A case under Sections 61/1/14 of Excise Act has been registered against the unidentified person.
